Station Hand

Currently FILLED (at all locations)

We are seeking to employ a station hand couple/2 or 3 singles or friends on our Tambo area cattle property.  Applicants must be able to work unsupervised or solo (be a self starter), be punctual, a hard worker with a happy attitude who will enjoy challenges, ability and experience riding 2 wheel motorbikes (we don't use horses for work), essential to have a good sense of direction, excellent communication skills with a willingness to follow instructions.  Experience with livestock is desirable however not essential BUT we do A LOT of cattle work so it will be essential that you love that part of the job. 

No Horses or pig dogs, non smoker. working dogs by negotiation.

Important Information

The following skills are desirable;

  • Ability to work within a small team or work unsupervised

  • Think for yourself

  • Current drivers licence

  • Desire to acquire above average stock skills

  • Mechanical and welding skills desirable

  • Communication skills (are imperative)

  • Ability to ride a motorbike

With this position we offer accommodation, live onsite in a tidy, private 3 bedroom fully furnished cottage and remuneration is in accordance with the Pastoral Award according to skills and abilities.   Experience is preferred but not essential to apply, just a willingness to learn and accept instruction. Transferable skills highly regarded (trades).

Specific Roles:

  • To be responsible for the well-being of the stock and to apply the practices of Low Stress Stock (LSS) handling when working with stock. 

  • Cattle mustering on motorbikes. 

  • Performing Cattle husbandry. 

  • Fencing construction and maintenance. 

  • Water construction and maintenance. 

  • Machinery maintenance. 

  • Participate in a skills audit to identify and prioritise the training that is necessary 

  • To attend meetings to work with the rest of the team to prioritise the operational side of the Bayrick business 

  • Welding & Vehicle maintenance 

  • Feeding Lick supplement to cattle 

  • Other associated rural cattle station duties. 

Expectations of prospective employee: 

  • That the applicant will keep the sheds in a neat and tidy condition 

  • That the tools, motorbikes and motor vehicles are kept in a safe neat and orderly condition. 

  • That after use, all equipment will be returned to their retrospective places. 

  • That the jobs that are set out are accomplished (within reason). 

  • That all Workplace Health and Safety rules are followed and common sense prevails.  

  • The ability to comprehend written and oral operational and safety instructions and related rules policies and memos

  • Communicate clearly with co-workers and supervisors

Personal Expectations

Main Skills Required: 

  • Some mechanical knowledge; particularly about motorbikes

  • Willingness, keenness to learn about the Agricultural industry 

  • Driver's License essential 

  • Weapons licence would be an advantage 

  • Working dogs by prior negotiation only. 

Bayrick is currently managed by a  family and this couple position will fill all other staffing roles, so willingness to be alone and work unsupervised is essential. Bayrick is also quite remote - 75km from Tambo (4478), so a car is essential.

Woolthorpe Station Manager

Would suit a couple or family

Lord and Penna Grazing is a family-owned beef/sheep/goat operation and are seeking to employ a couple to fill the managers role at Woolthorpe Station, located 75km North of Aramac Qld.

 

 The position offers full-time employment for 2 people or could suit a family with flexible working arrangements. 

 

Woolthorpe is predominantly a Wagyu breeding operation, and the manager would be required to oversee staff, plant and equipment maintenance, fencing, water maintenance, cattle handling using LSS principals , general farm infrastructure projects and be capable of operating machinery. 

 

The position will suit a couple who have lots of energy for the job, willing to learn, previous experience in the industry is a necessity and be willing to communicate with owners on a regular basis.  To be successful you must be reliable and flexible.  All of our mustering is performed on motorbikes (no horses). 

 

These positions are full time and would suit someone looking to forward their career in the Agriculture industry.  The job requires you to work independently as well as with owners, at times, and other staff. 

 

A salary package will be negotiated with the successful applicant but will include a large comfortable 4-bedroom house.

 

There is a bus run/stop to the local school of Aramac, 22km from the homestead. 

Important Information

The Manager needs to have a high level of care and autonomy to perform the role as majority of the work is performed unsupervised. The Manager must be highly motivated to ensure all work schedules are kept and work outputs are maintained both for self and staff. The Manager must be available to liaise with owners on a regular basis through meetings, (phone, video conferencing or face to face and a current shared calendar to manage priorities for all parties.)​

Specific Roles:

  •  Employee management including supervision, induction, and training.

  • Ensure not only own, but employee work is completed to high standard.
  • Co-ordinate and conduct staff meetings/agendas/timetables.
  • Maintain station culture and positively contribute to company culture.
  • Ensure WH&S is in place for all employees.
  • Responsible for staff training to agreed level.  
  • Maintain accurate stock numbers
  • Livestock management including monitoring health, growth and grazing.
  • Ensure LSS methods are used and implemented.
  • Manage feeding and ordering of lick and rations for stock.
  • Co-ordinate mustering program and undertake mustering.
  • Draft, sort, and make decisions on stock.
  • Maintenance of machinery and buildings.
  • Responsible for maintenance and allocation of motorbikes, vehicles and machines.
  • Manage water, maintenance/development/solve problems.
  • Co-ordinate and enact development projects (waters/fencing/upgrades)
  • Maintain fencing priority to boundary fence to ensure feral fence exclusion standard.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the roads and controlling erosion.
  • Order all equipment/consumables/tools required for undertaking station duties.
  • Maintain a high-level cleanliness and presentation of all homestead ground and buildings.
  • Carry out weed and pest control
  • Manage grass usage, budget grass, grazing reporting and maintain accurate rain records
  • Communicate with agents/feedlots/truck drivers/owners of the business
  • Co-ordinate trucking and book all associated trucks.
  • Record information for NLIS/LPA requirements.
  • Attend L&P bi-annual meetings

 

Expectations of prospective employee: 

  • Work is planned & completed to an agreed standard and timeframe.

  • Manager to maintain a shared calendar with partners and staff

  • Ability to use or learn to use OneNote and Google Calendar.

  • Happy, healthy & productive work culture.

  • Regular and efficient updating of OneNote with all relevant information

  • Maintain a graze plan that manages the balance between pasture health and cattle health and production.

  • Manage to times when Cattle nutrition is the priority, other times Pasture health is the priority.

  • Delivering animals to specific specifications and expectations

  • Regular updated feed budgets and benchmark SDH/100ml and have information available on shared database.

Station hand/Maintenance Overseer

SPECIFIC ROLES:

  • The primary role of the position is the responsibility of all station related maintenance.

  •  willing to apply the practices of Low Stress Stock handling (LSS) when working with stock.

  • A high level of vehicle maintenance and cleanliness

  • A high level of motor bike maintenance and repairs

  • General property maintenance i.e. water troughs, fences.

  • Assist manager with the implementation of the property development plan.

  • Participate in a skills audit to identify and prioritise the training that is necessary.

  • To attend weekly meetings to work with the rest of the team to prioritise the operational side of the Woolthorpe business.

  • To develop a high level of communication with the rest of the team.

  • General station duties as requested/required

  • Contribute to a safe workplace

Main Skills Required:

  • Good communicating skills

  • Sound mechanical knowledge particularly about station plant & equipment.

  • Sound machinery operation skills

  • Welding and fabrication skills required

  • Truck licence would be an advantage

  • Weapons licence would be an advantage

  • An open mind, keenness for the job and a willingness to accept change

  • Ability to prioritise and organise self

  • We would expect the successful applicant to be willing to maintain a high standard in relation to the care of equipment and livestock.

  • Grader experience would be an advantage.

Station Domestic

Currently Filled

We are a family run cattle station in Western Queensland, 2 hours north of Longreach, Woolthorpe Station.  Our small team has 5 adults and 3 kids.  This position is for someone who would consider themselves an all-rounder.  To fit this job you must be a self motivated, willing to be flexible to undertake a variety of tasks with a genuine desire to live and work on a remote cattle station. 

As we run 2 properties a willingness to do a short stay at Bayrick, Tambo may also be required for the same duties.

SPECIFIC ROLES:

  • Cleaning (washing walls, windows, laundry, vacuum and mop floors, tidy and dust etc)

  • Cooking

  • Painting

  • Childcare when needed

  • General station duties as requested/required

  • Contribute to a safe workplace

Main Skills Required:

  • Genuine desire to be part of a team

  • Embrace family orientated culture

  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks

  • Capacity to complete tasks to a high level
